Dr. Biaze Houston is an accomplished educational leader with more than two decades of experience leading school and district improvement efforts, developing leadership capacity, and advancing equitable outcomes for students. As an Analytic Partner with The Impact Team, Biaze recently completed her first year partnering with school and district leaders to strengthen instructional leadership, implement continuous improvement systems, and accelerate student achievement through data-informed decision making and leadership coaching.
A proud Colorado native and first-generation college graduate, Dr. Houston has dedicated her career to ensuring all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities and the support necessary to achieve at high levels. Her leadership experience spans classroom teaching, school administration, district leadership, organizational development, and national educational consulting.
Since 2021, Dr. Houston has served as Chief of District Support for the University of Virginia Partnership for Leaders in Education (PLE), where she partners with district leaders across the country to strengthen leadership systems, improve organizational effectiveness, and drive sustainable improvement efforts focused on student achievement. Through this work, she has supported district leadership teams in strategic planning, implementation monitoring, leadership development, and continuous improvement processes designed to produce measurable gains in student outcomes.
Dr. Houston’s previous leadership roles include Director of Assessment Literacy and Instruction, middle school turnaround principal, assistant principal, and teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. As a turnaround principal, she successfully led significant improvements in student achievement and school performance, resulting in the school earning Colorado’s highest performance rating and recognition as a Colorado Center of Excellence. Her experience leading school transformation efforts provides her with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with accelerating achievement in historically underserved communities.
An expert in assessment literacy, instructional leadership, and organizational improvement, Dr. Houston has extensive experience helping leaders leverage data to identify priorities, monitor implementation, strengthen instructional practices, and improve student outcomes. She is highly skilled in leadership coaching, facilitation, strategic planning, school improvement planning, and the development of systems that support accountability and continuous learning.
For more than 15 years, Dr. Houston has served on the Colorado Department of Education’s State Review Panel, evaluating school improvement efforts and supporting accountability processes for schools and districts across the state. This work has provided her with extensive expertise in school performance analysis, improvement planning, implementation monitoring, and systems-level change.
Dr. Houston holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Denver, a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning, and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Her work is grounded in the belief that strong leadership, coherent systems, and a relentless focus on learning are essential to achieving sustainable improvement and equitable outcomes for all students.
