Through my sessions with the Impact team, I have gained a deeper understanding of text-first unit planning and what true rigor looks like for students. I now recognize that rigor extends beyond standardized testing skills because it encompasses the critical skills students need to succeed throughout their entire educational journey. I learned that the tasks students complete throughout a unit predict outcomes. I’ve shared these insights with my team, focusing on how to craft rigorous, text-dependent questions and providing students with multiple opportunities to engage in meaningful challenges.

Working with The Impact Team has been deeply impactful as a teacher. I have learned SO much about how to interpret CKLA rather than just follow it, and how to critically think about the skills my students need to be successful. Our planning sessions have helped me understand the depth and scope of the standards, and taught me how to create weekly plans that more closely align to standards and expectations for CMAS while still using CKLA. I have a much deeper knowledge of the components of a good literacy lesson, and have felt more prepared than ever to deliver instruction that I knew would help my students be successful and reach grade level goals. My teaching has been transformed in the past few months because I know so much more about how to align the daily work my students are doing to the curriculum, standards, and expectations on CMAS. I wish I had known how to plan at this level years ago! It is hard to put into words how my confidence as a teacher has grown. I feel like the secret to being a strong literacy teacher has been unlocked for me!

Through breakthrough professional learning, coaching and planning with our ILT and teachers, the IMPACT Team supported our school to address persistent challenges in our classrooms including balancing cognitive demands, increased engagement and productivity for students. The IMPACT Team worked closely with our leaders to refine coaching cycles, ensuring that support is more coherent and meaningful. Teacher planning is more productive, with clear alignment between tasks and standards, ensuring grade-level instruction that promotes student proficiency.
